The increasing rate of poverty in the suburbs in Vancouver and other regions are a matter of concern for government officials. The trend in the Vancouver real estate market is not enough to push aside the poverty of displaced Canadian citizens. The local governments are the only ones on the frontline dealing with the poverty issue with a slippery glove. The city officials are only capable of handling small problems and the threat is intensifying on a national level. Instead of creating new venues of lifting the oppressive nature of poverty, the new shingles on bungalows are supposed to hide the crying and hunger within the walls of the home.

What started out as a normal event in the Vancouver housing market is quickly turning into a bleak mire for the refugees and local citizens. The fact of limited resources offered on the local level is not realized by the province or federal officials. The underlining bandages are not enough to fix this growing issue, the province officials need to offer local aid for the Lower Mainland region in combating the poverty problem. There have been shelters and food pantries stationed in several cities but the poverty growth is exceeding these local resources.

The two major venues causing the rise in poverty are the migratory swing and economy of the region. If the City of Vancouver suffers from a decline in new business, the current market will not support any kind of expansion for its population. This is in regards in providing employment for its local residents. The refugees and displaced citizens will move to the outskirts for affordable housing, while the costs of good housing will increase. This could mean a boom in property prices on the outskirts, which will only hurt the transitional workforce.

The after effects are that the working class and upper society will separate even more through income-based neighborhoods. This will cause a minor fluctuation in the outskirts for a few months; the prime real estate will be swallowed up with those that have the gold to purchase it. Other provinces are not seeing this strain on resources due to the geographical layout. The Lower Mainland region is in strife with the environment, the lack of space is the cause of the rise in prices and in general another cause in the increase of poverty. The increase of governmental aid will have to suffice along with local resources to combat the poverty level in the Vancouver housing market. The province's interference will cause a rife between the rich and general populace. The issue cannot be ignored but the province officials and government officials can only provide finical substance to combat this trend. The monetary aid offered currently only covers some of the wounds by the rising housing costs in the Lower Mainland area. Will there be a suitable solution to this problem? Yes and no, the complexities are mainly left among the local residents and their property owners to solve. There is not a general solution in the long term that will overcome the poverty pressures in the major cities.
